Creating and Managing Brand Voices

Every article starts with a voice — and in Ongage Studio, that voice is something you can define, reuse, and control with precision.

Brand Voices let you shape how the AI writes: what tone it uses, what words it favors, how long the sentences are, and what kind of personality the writing projects. This section covers how to create a Brand Voice, configure its instructions, and manage it across Sites and Agents.

You can use prebuilt voices, customize your own, or build one entirely from scratch.

Creating a New Brand Voice

To begin, open the Brand Voices panel from the Studio sidebar and click + New Brand Voice.

The only required field is Name. Once you've entered a name and clicked Create, your new voice is added to the system and you'll be taken to the voice editor where you can fill in detailed creative instructions.

You can start simple or define every nuance. For now, your voice will remain active and usable, even if no other fields are filled in.

Instructional Blocks

Every Brand Voice is made up of editable Instructional Blocks — structured fields that guide how the Agent writes.

These fields include both dropdowns and free-text areas that shape sentence flow, tone, and messaging style. They give you editorial control without needing to prompt the model manually.

Common fields include:

Block NameWhat It Controls
ToneThe emotional feel of the writing (e.g., calm, bold, playful)
Writing StyleHow information is delivered (e.g., storytelling, persuasive, instructional)
CharacterThe personality traits of the voice (e.g., witty, serious, no-nonsense)
EmotionUnderlying energy or mood (e.g., empathetic, energized, neutral)
Sentence LengthShort, long, or mixed rhythm
PerspectiveFirst-person, second-person, or third-person
Focus WordsWords or phrases to prioritize across outputs
Blocked WordsTerms to avoid for brand tone or clarity
Formatting PreferencesHeadings, paragraph style, bullets, or other layout guidance
Custom InstructionsAny specific house rules, brand quirks, or editorial nuances

These blocks form the creative DNA of your voice and apply every time the voice is used by an Agent.

To learn how each block contributes to the writing output, see Structuring Brand Voice Instructions.

Post-Creation Management

Once a Brand Voice is created, it appears in your Brand Voices list along with all other available or custom voices.

From this main panel, you can:

  • View and search all voices in your workspace
  • Open and edit voice instructions
  • Duplicate a voice to create a variation
  • Disable a voice without deleting it
  • Filter to show only disabled voices
  • Sort by Name, Creation Date, or Internal ID

This helps teams manage large collections of Brand Voices — including versions used for testing, different client tones, or seasonal campaigns.

Editing a Brand Voice

To edit a voice:

  1. Go to the Brand Voices panel
  2. Find the voice you want to modify
  3. Click the three vertical dots on the right
  4. Select Edit

From here, you can update any field inside the voice, including its tone, style, vocabulary, or persona traits. All changes are saved instantly and apply to future Agent runs using that voice.

Duplicating or Disabling a Voice

  • Use Duplicate to create a modified version without affecting the original. This is ideal for testing tone changes or adapting a voice to new formats.
  • Use Disable to hide a voice from Agent menus while preserving it in your system. Disabled voices can be reactivated at any time.

Filters in the Brand Voices panel let you quickly find archived or inactive voices by toggling status.

Assigning a Voice

Once your voice is ready, you can assign it in three places:

  • Site Level — Set a default voice for all Agents under that Site
  • Agent Level — Assign a specific voice within Agent configuration
  • Run Time — Manually select a voice when triggering an Agent (if overrides are enabled)

To learn more about where and how voices are assigned, see Assigning Voices to Sites and Agents.

Summary

Brand Voices are a core feature in Studio’s content system. They let you go beyond prompting and build a repeatable, scalable identity for every article, newsletter, or campaign. With one required field and structured creative guidance, you can build a voice once and use it everywhere — across teams, formats, and clients.
